Nestled between Muncy Heritage Park and the West Branch Susquehanna River sits the Logue/McMahon conservation easement. These lands are filled with immense history.
The historic Pennsylvania canal, which operated from 1827 to 1839 is part of the Muncy Heritage Park and Nature Trail which bisects the property. On the section of the easement east of the canal lays a large wetland that provides food and habitat for ducks, geese, fish, frogs, turtles and other wildlife.
The conservation easement protects the historic farmhouse (circa 1795) on the property, which is eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
Agricultural practices on the property continue to this day with row crops, typically corn, being grown on Class 1 agricultural soils. The forested riparian buffer helps prevent riverbank erosion and nutrients from entering the West Branch Susquehanna River, which improves the health of the waterway down to the Chesapeake Bay.
