Tie Dye Party
Friday, June 27, 2025
1:00 PM – 4:00PM
Blossburg Memorial Library
307 Main Street, Blossburg, PA 16912
Let’s make art from an unexpected source—abandoned mine drainage!
At this free event for all ages, you’ll learn how iron from an abandoned mine drainage discharge ends up in waterways and leaves behind that rusty red and orange color. Then, we will use a dye made from that iron to tie dye t-shirts you can take home that day.
This is a creative way to explore the lasting impact of coal mining and how local partners are working together to improve water quality across the region.
🔹 Open to all ages
🔹 All supplies provided, including t-shirts
🔹 Free to attend, but registration strongly encouraged
🔹 Call the Blossburg Memorial Library at 570-638-2197 to register
Blossburg’s rich coal mining history and the ongoing restoration of the Tioga River are coming together! Rivers, Coal & Crafts is an exciting series of community events that launched this spring, connecting residents and visitors with the land, water, and stories that shaped this region.
Through hands-on workshops, craft projects, and storytelling, participants of all ages are learning about the decades-long impacts of Abandoned Mine Drainage (AMD) on the Tioga River—and how the Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy and its partners are working together to restore the river and its surrounding landscape for future generations.
